Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Alcon Entertainment's "Blade Runner" sequel, producers announced on Thursday, April 16. The star of "The Notebook" will join a cast headlined by Harrison Ford, who is reprising his role as retired police officer Rick Deckard from the 1982 sci-fi classic.

The untitled Blade Runner project will be directed by Dennis Villeneuve with a script from Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The original movie's director Ridley Scott will be the executive producer. The sequel will take several decades after the original, which took place in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles.

It's still unknown whom Ryan will play. The principal photography is set to begin in summer 2016 and it is scheduled for a 2017 release.

Ryan, who recently made his directorial debut in "Lost River", is currently in productions for "The Big Short" alongside Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Steve Carell. He has recently wrapped Shane Black's thriller flick "The Nice Guys".

Dennis, meanwhile, has just got his new movie "Sicario" accepted as a Cannes Film Festival entry. The movie stars Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro.
