The 'Furious 7' actor and the 'Maze Runner' star will join Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez in the true-story feature film.

AceShowbiz - Kurt Russell and Dylan O'Brien are cast for "Deepwater Horizon", a movie based on a true story about the infamous BP oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The two are joined by the previously-announced members Mark Wahlberg and Gina Rodriguez.

Wahlberg will play a manager on the rig, and Rodriguez plays an employee who monitors the safety systems before the explosion happens. O'Brien is tapped to portray the youngest crew member on the rig, who survived the disaster, while Russell is cast in an unspecified role.

Peter Berg replaces J.C. Chandor at the helm after the latter left due to creative differences. Chandor allegedly wanted to focus on the relationship between human and oil, while Berg will approach it as a survival tale like his movie "Lone Survivor" which also starred Wahlberg.

Based on New York Times article "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour", the film will be released in the States on September 30, 2016. It's currently in pre-production in Louisiana.

Kurt Russell has just finished "Furious 7" and is rumored to return for "Fast and Furious 8". Dylan O'Brien, famous for his role on "Teen Wolf", was last seen in "The Maze Runner". He is also attached to reprise his role in the sequel "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials".
