The cable channel decides not to renew the critically-acclaimed comedy series starring Jonathan Groff for a third season, but will conclude the story with a special.

AceShowbiz - HBO has pulled the plug on its gay-centric series "Looking". The critically-acclaimed comedy is canceled after only two seasons, with the season 2 finale already airing on Sunday, March 22.

The second season ended with a cliffhanger as Patrick (Jonathan Groff) is torn between choosing his current boyfriend Kevin (Russell Tovey) and his ex Ritchie (Raul Castillo). Fans, however, can expect a closure to this love triangle as HBO plans a special to wrap up the characters' journey.

"After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special," the network says in a statement. "We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows' loyal fans." There's no word on when the special will air.

"Looking" centers on a group of gay friends living in San Francisco who grapple with all the options in contemporary life and the complexities of the modern gay experience. While it won the hearts of critics, the show never gained big audience, with the last episode drawing 298,000 total viewers.
