E! May Cancel 'Fashion Police', Was Going to Fire Kathy Griffin Before Her Resignation

Sources say there had been numerous issues including an alleged feud between Griffin and co-host Brad Goreski that prompted the show's producers to hold discussions about firing Griffin.

AceShowbiz - Following announcement that Kathy Griffin quit "Fashion Police", there are many stories about what led to her abrupt decision. While Kathy said she left the show because it's too mean-spirited, sources say there had been some issue behind the scenes that prompted the show's producers to consider giving her the ax before she tweeted her resignation.

Sources tell Extra that Kathy was feuding with new co-host Brad Goreski because she felt he upstaged her with his own jokes and she wanted executives to tell him to stop being funny. But the show's execs disagreed with Kathy and supported Goreski.

The show's execs once again disagreed with the comedienne when she suggested that they named 11-year-old actress Quvenzhane Wallis as the "worst dressed" star during the Golden Globes coverage, but E! nixed it. The sources say hours before Kathy announced her exit, E! execs held discussions about terminating her.

Other sources tell TMZ that the tension behind the scenes had been brewing for weeks and Kathy had several times threatened to quit the show. She reportedly once rejected a pitched segment called "Whore Score", arguing that "name calling and alliteration with no comedic context is simply the lowest hanging fruit." The show's staff felt like Kathy was being a hypocrite and took a shot at her own show.

Meanwhile, Confidenti@l learns that E! execs are now considering to cancel the show following Kathy's departure "in a bid to save their celebrity relationships." A source says, "They have off this month, but don't be surprised if they cancel it quietly in a matter of weeks, when the craziness dies down a little. Melissa [Rivers] is a producer, not a leader; she can't get control of the situation."

The network's honchos allegedly label the show a "hassle" as celebrities are now trashing the broadcast, which was deemed edgy back in Joan Rivers' days. The source adds that Giuliana Rancic will be pleased with the cancellation because she has had enough with the controversy surrounding her racist joke about Zendaya Coleman's Oscars deadlocks. " 'Fashion Police' is an albatross around her neck," so the source claims. "She's like, let the thing die already."

E! has not responded to the cancellation rumor. The network previously said the show would "return as scheduled on Monday, March 30, at 9 P.M."

Kathy's departure came on the heels of Kelly Osbourne's exit because of Giuliana's racist comments about her friend Zendaya.
