Uma Thurman's Make-Up Artist Explains Her Different Look

Uma's make-up artist is 'quite surprised' by plastic surgery rumors surrounding the actresss, saying he skipped mascara and false eyelashes to create a 'more editorial' look.
Uma Thurman has been surrounded by plastic surgery rumors after she looked different and almost unrecognizable on the red carpet of "The Slap" premiere. In a new interview with PEOPLE, Uma's make-up artist Troy Surratt explains her facial change.

"Frankly, I'm quite surprised by the conversation," Troy says, "By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression. I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks - it's only makeup, at the end of the day it all washes off."

Troy says he created an "effortless Parisienne chic" look on Uma by focusing on her lips and complexion. "I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow," he explains, "Uma and I discussed creating a look that was more editorial with soft natural lashes. As a makeup artist I've grown a bit tired of all of the lash-y looks and fake eyelashes that we've been seeing on the red carpet for some time now."

Uma attended the premiere of "The Slap" on Monday, February 9 wearing an all-black outfit including a top, long coat, long pants and strap heels. She completed her look with a slicked hairstyle and red lips.
