The newly engaged couple is rumored to have been 'screening potential surrogates since December, as they are excited to expand their little family.'

AceShowbiz - Sofia Vergara and her new fiance Joe Manganiello are planning to have a child via surrogate, InTouch reports. An insider tells the site that the newly engaged couple "hope to have a baby on the way when they walk down the aisle later this year."

The insider adds, "Sofia and Joe will use a surrogate, but the baby will be their biological child, conceived with Sofia's egg and Joe's sperm." According to the insider, the pair have been "screening potential surrogates since December, as they are excited to expand their little family."

"It's a closely guarded secret why Sofia won't be carrying the baby and not something they're openly talking about. One thing is for sure, though: They can't wait to be parents!" the insider claims.

Back in March 2013, Sofia, who was then linked to Nick Loeb, revealed to Vogue magazine that she was freezing her eggs. "I have to be careful what I eat because they're freezing my eggs," she told the magazine.

The "Modern Family" actress explained that the doctors "want to get as many eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they're not good. They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones," before adding, "My boyfriend [Nick Loeb] is 37, younger than me, never had kids."

She said her 22-year-old son Manolo had been wanting to have a sibling since he was younger. "You know, sometimes [Manolo] used to scream at me when he was younger, 'Why can't you have another baby, so you can stop focusing on me?' "
