TLC Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Final Album

T-Boz and Chilli want to have complete creative control of their last studio installment by turning to fans for financial help instead of going to major label.

TLC wants complete control of their final album and involves their fans to make it happen. Instead of signing with a major label, the remaining members, T-Boz and Chilli, create a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production and promotion of the album.

"We've always been known to do things differently," said T-Boz to The Associated Press. "We've always been trailblazers and trendsetters. We've always been outspoken, and this seems like the perfect opportunity."

"People may say, 'Hey, you are celebrities. Why can't you just pay for it yourself?' " Chilli said. "But it doesn't work that way. There's a lot that goes into it. We want to bring our fans into the process and see how it's done."

"We could knock out two birds with one stone," she added. "We can have them involved in our album. Then also, we can have control over everything. That's a perfect combination."

Donation starts at $5 with a $150,000 goal. The rewards include VIP concert tickets, a recorded custom voicemail by T-Boz and Chilli, an invite to the listening party, and a photo shoot with the girl band. The fundraiser has so far reached over $15,000 with 30 days to go.
