'Glee' Star Talks About Coach Beiste's Life-Changing Decision in Latest Episode
TV

Dot Jones teases that fans can expect to see a major physical transformation that makes her look unrecognizable when her character returns later in the season.

AceShowbiz - "Glee" addressed another LGBT issue in its latest episode. In the January 16 outing titled "Jagged Little Tapestry", [SPOILER ALERT!] Coach Beiste (Dot Jones) announced her decision to undergo a gender reassignment surgery to become a man.

"I gotta get my body in alignment with how I see myself," she explained to Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Sue (Jane Lynch). The ever cynical Sue is surprisingly supportive of Beiste's decision, telling her that her job will be there for her when she returns to work.

To The Hollywood Reporter, Jones says that the storyline is "just another vehicle to reach another group of people who are learning to be OK in your body." She also hopes that she will "make the trans community proud" with her portrayal of the character who is transitioning from a woman to a man.

On the physical tranformation that fans can expect to see when Shannon becomes Sheldon in episode 6, the actress gushes, "It's a big transition. A lot of people walked right past me and had no idea it was me. Hair and makeup did an incredible job. It's pretty awesome. The first time I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked like one of my brothers! It's just like any role you take on, you're just switching things around a bit."

"Glee" will return with a new episode, "The Hurt Locker, Part 1", on Friday, January 23 at 9/8c on FOX. Rachel tries to make a deal with Will, so that his glee club purposefully underperforms at their invitational, while Sue is busy meddling and hypnotizes Sam into making a move on Rachel to throw her off.
