Two days after the Golden Globe Awards, the 'Magic in the Moonlight' director is announced to direct and write a half-hour comedy series for a scheduled 2016 debut.

AceShowbiz - Woody Allen is going to make his first foray on television. The "Fading Gigolo" star is tapped by Amazon to direct and write a comedy series. A full season with half-hour episodes is in order and due sometime next year on Prime Instant Video of the video-streaming service.

The Oscar-winning director is picked for job because of his "visionary" works, Amazon Studios Vice President Roy Price said. The actor/helmer himself joked, "I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."

The announcement came on the heels of Amazon's win at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 11. Their show "Transparent" about a California family with a transgender patriarch won best musical or comedy TV series and best actor in a musical or comedy series for Jeffrey Tambor. It marks their first victory at the event.
