AceShowbiz - Kyle MacLachlan is indeed coming back for "Twin Peaks" revival on Showtime. The actor has closed a deal to star on the nine-episode limited series, reprising his role as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

MacLachlan made a surprise appearance at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Monday, January 12, handing a "damn good cup of coffee" to Showtime president David Nevins. "I'm very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of 'Twin Peaks'. May the forest be with you," he said.

The "Twin Peaks" limited series is eyed to air in 2016. Series co-creator David Lynch will direct all nine episodes. The limited series is set in the present day and is promised to "continue the lore of the original series." Nevins gushed about the upcoming show, "From what I've seen, I think this going to live up to expectations-and then some."

The original series that ran for two seasons from 1990 to 1991 on ABC follows an investigation headed by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The show that incorporated mystery, psychological and supernatural elements was praised by critics, but was never a ratings success as many believe that it was ahead of its time.
