Bill Cosby's lawyer Martin Singer has threatened New York Daily News after it published a rape story made by Sammy Davis Jr.'s ex-girlfriend Katherine "Kathy" McKee. According to The Hollywood reporter, Martin sent a lengthy letter to the Daily News on Monday, December 22.

Martin demanded the newspaper publish a retraction and correction and threatened to take legal actions. He claimed that Kathy's story was part of the newspaper's "ongoing pattern of recklessly and maliciously publishing outlandish stories about my client fitting with its predetermined smear agenda."

Martin added that the allegations against Bill were one-sided. "The media has consistently refused to look into or publish information about various women whose stories are contradicted by their own conduct or statement," he said.

The lawyer argued that Kathy's comments were contradicted by positive comments she previously made about Bill. In a 2010 interview, Kathy previously said the comedian "treated me wonderfully."

"Why would someone who was allegedly raped 'like' a comedy video by their alleged attacker?" Martin said, referring to Kathy's "liking" to a Bill comedy video on YouTube. "Why would she list her appearance on his show at the top of her list of professional accomplishments? It defies credibility," he added.

In the interview, Kathy also admitted that she "had to do a lot of lying" because of her job as a showgirl. Martin said, "The enormous disparity between the Daily News story and her public words and conduct establish that the Story was published recklessly and with constitutional malice."
