"The School of Rock" is coming to Broadway. Andrew Lloyd Webber ("Cats", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Phantom of the Opera") and his team are working on the stage adaptation of the movie starring Jack Black. The preview will take place on November 2 at the Winter Garden Theatre and it is set to open on December 6.

In addition to the existing songs, Lloyd Webber works on new songs with lyrics by Glenn Slater ("The Little Mermaid", "Sister Act"). "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes works on the book while Laurence Connor serves as the director. No cast has been announced. " 'School of Rock' is hugely about how music can empower kids," said the composer when announcing the project on Thursday, December 18.

"School of Rock" was a hit when it was released in 2003. It tells the story of Black's character Dewey Finn, a struggling rock musician who ends up as an elementary school teacher and later forming a band with his students. The movie also stars John Cusack and Sarah Silverman.
