Keanu Reeves Denies 'Dr. Strange' Casting Rumor
Movie

The 'John Wick' actor dismisses report that he's one of the frontrunner for the movie as saying, 'It hasn't been brought to me.'

AceShowbiz - Keanu Reeves responds to "Dr. Strange" rumor, hinting that he is not a frontrunner to play Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme despite rumor to the contrary. The "John Wick" actor tells Toronto Sun that he hasn't been approached for the superhero role.

"I read about that," he said. "But I don't know the character Doctor Strange; I need to go brush up. So I don't know. It hasn't been brought to me." He, however, is game to play the character if the script is right. "Back in the day I wanted to play Wolverine," he laughed. "But that was a long time ago, and they've got a really good Wolverine now."

It's not the first time Reeves addressed the rumor. He previously talked to Collider after he became one of fans' favorites to play the role, showing his reluctance to sign on for multiple films. "From a practical standpoint the idea of a longtime contract is sort of 'errr' because you want to make sure the material is up to a certain level," he explained. "Like the good or great level. I like the idea. I go to those kinds of movies."

A bunch of names appear in the "Dr. Strange" casting mix after Joaquin Phoenix dropped out of negotiations to play Stephen Strange. The rumored candidates are Colin Farrell, Ryan Gosling, Oscar Isaac, Jared Leto, Ethan Hawke, Ewan McGregor, Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey.

"Dr. Strange" is slated for July 8, 2016 release in the U.S. Kevin Feige said the film would be the "doorway" to enter the supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Scott Derrickson ("Sinister", "Deliver Us from Evil") will serve behind the lens.
