AceShowbiz - Eddie Vedder paid tribute to the late Isaiah "Ikey" Owens at Pearl Jam's concert in Detroit on Thursday night, October 16. Taking the stage at Joe Louis Arena, the band performed "Light Years" and dedicated it to the keyboardist who died earlier this week when he was touring Mexico with Jack White.
Before starting the performance, Vedder told the crowd that White's "a friend of the whole group, a great player, a great writer and visionary." He added, "We send our heart out to [White] and his band ... The only thing we can do is try to take energy here [at the concert] so we can remember [Owens] fondly."
Owens, who passed away at the age of 35, had been serving as a keyboardist in White's touring band since 2012. "The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14 at approximately 4 A.M.," read a statement released following the musician's death.
White subsequently canceled the remaining dates on his tour in Mexico "out of respect for Ikey."
