Lena Dunham, a supporter of LGBTQ, is producing a documentary about Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn-based bespoke tailoring company that has become well known for making suits for transgender clients. "So excited about this doc @campsucks and I are producing! Bindle & Keep: breaking down binaries, making smart suits," the "Girls" creator and star tweeted on Monday, September 22.
According to Vanity Fair which first reported the news, the HBO doc titled "Three Suits" will follow some of the company's "transgender clients as they go through the process of having custom suits made, examining the significance of the process for a set of customers with complex gender identities."
"We were totally blown away when Lena's team first reached out to us-the art we practice is so specialized that it was hard to believe heavy hitters were taking an interest," said Bindle & Keep founder and owner Daniel Friedman.
Friedman, an architect, started the business after mysteriously losing the ability to read and write seven years ago. Only recently he learnt that it was caused by Lyme disease which has affected his brain.
Friedman said he took inspiration from Rachel Tutera of The Handsome Butch. He provides suits for work, for court, for gay weddings and his clients include high-profile members of Netflix's hit series "Orange Is the New Black".
No premiere date has been set for the documentary. Dunham is joined by Jenni Konner ("Girls") as exec producers. Jason Benjamin ("OITNB", "Girls") will direct it with Bob Richman ("An Inconvenient Truth", "The September Issue") as cinematographer.
