Another of Nicholas Sparks' novels is coming to big screen this fall. Titled "The Best of Me", it has been previewed in a trailer which teases a heart-wrenching love story that spans two decades.

At the center of the story are Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier, two small-town former high school sweethearts from opposite sides of the tracks. Separated after a serious incident that landed Dawson in jail, the two have taken wildly divergent paths but neither has lived the life they imagined.

Twenty years later, they reunite when they are both called back to their hometown for the funeral of the mentor who once gave them shelter. Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they've never forgotten. Forced to confront the choices each has made, they will ask whether love can truly rewrite the past.

Paul Walker had been attached to the role of Dawson before he died in a tragic car accident in November 2013. He's replaced by James Marsden, while Michelle Monaghan plays Amanda. Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato play younger version of the characters.

Michael Hoffman directed the romantic drama film and co-wrote the script with Will Fetters and J. Mills Goodloe. It is set to open wide in theaters across the U.S. on October 17.
