Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana, along with Diego Luna and Christina Applegate, are added to the cast ensemble of "The Book of Life". The four actors are set to lend their voice to the characters in the upcoming comedy animation from 20th Century Fox Animation and Reel FX Animation.

Guillermo del Toro will serve as one of the producers. Ice Cube, Kate del Castillo, Ron Perlman, Cheech Marin, Hector Elizondo, Placido Domingo, Ana de la Reguera, Eugenio Derbez, Gabriel Iglesias, Ricardo "El Mandril" Sanchez and Danny Trejo are all tapped for the project.

Described as a Romeo and Juliet-inspired love story set during a Day of the Dead celebration, the pic will follow the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. It's promised to offer "a unique visual style" with "a fresh take on popular pop songs."

Jorge Gutierrez, the co-creator of Nickelodeon's series "El Tigre: The Many Adventures of Manny Rivera", will direct the movie. He also writes the screenplay with Doug Langdale. Aside from cover songs, there will be some original score and songs composed by Gustavo Santaolalla ("Brokeback Mountain", "Babel").
