Universal has announced a new title for its upcoming Dracula pic, "Dracula Untold". The movie sticks to its previous plan for an October 3, 2014 release. The only competition it will be facing off on that date so far will be 20th Fox Century's animated comedy "Book of Life".

Based on the fabled story of Bram Stoker, the action drama-fantasy movie is directed by Gary Shore and produced by Michael De Luca ("Fifty Shades of Grey"). It's led by Luke Evans with Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper and Samantha Barks in the supporting roles.

Alex Proyas was previously attached to helm the project when it was developed under the title "Dracula: Year Zero", and "Avatar" actor Sam Worthington was originally linked to play the male lead. Negotiations with the two eventually met dead end reportedly because of budget issues.

The story is expected to explore the origin of Prince Vlad the Impaler. Production has begun in summer this year. The movie was initially planned for summer 2014 release.
