Katie Couric has responded to Kim Kardashian's angry message which she wrote on Instagram following Katie's interview with a magazine. The journalist explains in a statement that she did not mean to offend Kim when she wondered why the Kardashians were so famous in the interview.

"I've met Kim before and I think she's a really sweet person," Katie tells E! News. "I was responding to a reporter's question, and explaining how I'm intrigued by the public's fascination with her family. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. The gift is genuine, and I'm happy for Kim and Kanye West," she adds.

Previously, Katie discussed some topics with In Touch magazine, such as her marriage and people's interest towards Kim Kardashian and Kim's family. "I don't understand - why are they so famous? I think it's mostly teenage girls that are interested," she said.

Kim apparently was offended after learning of the news. She posted a picture of a gift from Katie and captioned the picture with hashtags, "#IHateFakeMediaFriends," and "#MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalkS**t." Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian applauded her action, writing on Twitter, "God I love this new side of u!"

In other news, Katie recently was slammed by Jennifer Aniston after she learned that the journalist once pried into her love life. Chelsea Handler told the "We're the Millers" star earlier this month, "Katie Couric was asking me on her show about your wedding and I had to act like I didn't even know you were engaged because I didn't know that was out. Then she was like, 'Well, everyone knows about it!' So, I felt really stupid."

The actress, who apparently was annoyed, replied, "What's Katie Couric? Is she a legitimate journalist? Is she getting tabloidy? Wasn't she on the 'Today' show?" Chelsea answered, "She was on the 'Today' show. She got a demotion to her own show."
