TV

The 'Wanted' director is developing an action-adventure miniseries about a warrior from present day Earth who is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz.

Timur Bekmambetov will bring a present-day warrior to the mythical land of Oz on an upcoming Syfy miniseries. The "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" director will reimagine L. Frank Baum's classic tale "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" for the new project called "Warriors of Oz".

The modern-action take on the famous story will see a warrior from present day Earth transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz, Deadline reports. There, he must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.

Bekmambetov, who also served behind the lens for Angelina Jolie's "Wanted (2008)", will executive produce and possibly direct the miniseries. Search for the scribe is currently underway.

Syfy has previously aired a TV reimagination of the classic tale, "Tin Man" starring Zooey Deschanel, Neal McDonough and Alan Cumming among others. The story has also recently been adapted into a movie, "Oz: The Great and Powerful", by Sam Raimi with James Franco takling the titular wizard.
