Sarah Gadon is apparently not the new Mary Jane as rumored before. The Canadian beauty, who recently starred alongside Robert Pattinson, Paul Giamatti and Jay Baruchel in "Cosmopolis", denies reports she is set to replace "The Spectacular Now" star Shailene Woodley in the "Amazing Spider-Man" feature series.

"To all those a twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, but it is not that one :)," Gadon confirms via Twitter. The rumors swirled after ET Canada reported that the 26-year-old actress "is joining The Amazing Spider-Man franchise" without any details of what role she was offered and agreed to play.

As previously revealed by Marc Webb, Mary Jane Watson will not be introduced in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". The "500 Days of Summer" director reasoned that he needed to "streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship," and therefore shifted MJ's appearance to "The Amazing Spider-Man 3".

"Shailene is an incredibly talented actress, and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her," Webb said to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Amazing Spider-Man 2" is currently underway, and will open in theaters nationwide on May 2, 2014.
