Release Dates for 'Muppets 2', 'Pirates of Caribbean 5' and 'Maleficent' Announced

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures additionally scraps the plan to re-release 'Little Mermaid' in 3D, and gives a U.S. release date for Brad Bird's sci-fi project '1952'.

AceShowbiz - Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has announced the release dates for its big movie projects in 2014 and 2015. Those which already have the confirmed dates include "The Muppets 2", "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" and "Maleficent".

The sequel to "The Muppets" is now dated for March 21, 2014 release Stateside. The puppet film, which has tapped Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey as the lead human cast, will face off Summit Entertainment's "Divergent", a fantasy movie helmed by Neil Burger and stars Shailene Woodley.

Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent" is pushed back from March 14, 2014 to July 2 the same year. Set to be released in 3D, the fairytale pic will grace the screens around two weeks before two other tentpoles, "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again".

The fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, meanwhile, is due to hit cinemas Stateside on July 10, 2015. Johnny Depp has just been confirmed to reprise his iconic role as Jack Sparrow with Rob Marshall serving behind the lens. Another anticipated film to be released in July 2015 is Sony's "The Smurfs 3".

Apart from the three titles, Disney confirms the release schedules of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" haven't changed from their April 4 and August 1, 2014 dates respectively. The plan to re-release "The Little Mermaid" in 3D on September 13, 2013, on the other hand, was completely scrapped.

Additionally, Brad Bird's sci-fi project is now dated for December 19, 2014 release nationwide in 3D. The project, which plot is still kept secret, has George Clooney in the casting lineup and Damon Lindelof serving as the scribe.
