After sharing some stills to preview the new season of "The Walking Dead", AMC has just debuted the first poster for the third chapter. It has the survivor group leader, Rick, as its focus, but he's not the only one getting the highlight since new characters, Michonne and The Governor, join him in the one-sheet.

"Just like in the comic books, she is a badass and she hates the walkers more than anything else," showrunner Glen Mazzara dishes on Michonne who is portrayed by Danai Gurira. He adds that the sword-wielding heroine "treats them [zombies] with contempt" and that "she has a lot of trouble fitting into human society. She's probably better off staying out there alone with the walkers."

As for casting David Morrissey in the role of the evil Governor, Mazzara explains, "David is an incredibly talented actor with a lot of magnetism and we need somebody who can serve as the foundation, the pillar, for an entire storyline, an entire world of Woodbury. David has the strength to do that. I also think that David's approach to the character was spot on. He understands that this is an interesting, complex, multilayered, dark figure, and he's very interested in playing that."

Revealing in what situation the survivors find themselves when the third season starts, Mazzara gushes, "The entire landscape has fallen to zombies." He elaborates further, "The entire world has collapsed, the apocalypse has taken over, the zombies have taken over, there's no safe place. And I think in the past our characters thought they could find some safe harbor, and now there's just no good hiding place at all."

Before returning with all-new episodes this fall on AMC, "The Walking Dead" will head to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 13 in Hall H. Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus and more are set to attend the panel, where fans can get the first look at an official sneak preview of season 3.
