Scarlett Johansson will ditch her heroine Black Widow persona to play legendary actress Janet Leigh in her next movie. The 27-year-old actress has signed on to star in "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho", a true story movie directed by Sacha Gervasi.

Variety reported that Johansson was cast along with "W.E." star James D'Arcy, who will play Leigh's co-star in the original "Psycho" film, Anthony Perkins. Though D'Arcy's role is smaller compared to Johansson's, it's still considered as a major part given how important Perkins is to the classic horror film's legacy.

Johansson and D'Arcy are set to join Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren who have previously been attached to the cast ensemble. Hopkins and Mirren were tapped to play director Hitchcock and his wife Alma respectively.

Gervasi's movie will uncover the untold story of Hitchcock's struggles during the making of the 1960 classic movie. It also follows the late director's relationship with his wife Alma, who is his sounding board and constant collaborator for the fifty-four years of their marriage.

Penning the screenplay for "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" is "Black Swan" scribe John McLaughlin. Meanwhile, Ivan Reitman, Joe Medjuck and Tom Pollack are teaming up to produce the pic through their Montecito Picture Company along with Tom Thayer.

Rumor has it, the upcoming film had drawn comparisons to "My Week with Marilyn", which tells the story related to the making of Marilyn Monroe's movie "The Prince and the Showgirl" in 1957. It was said that Johansson's role as Leigh could lead the same awards consideration as Michelle Williams had for her portrayal as Monroe.
