TV

A modern twist of the classic tale, 'Beauty and the Beast' will present Kreuk as a homicide detective who protects the identity of a Beast.

Kristin Kreuk is hopping from one Disney character to another. The Canadian actress who once portrayed the titular character in TV movie "Snow White", is tackling the role of "Beauty" in the TV pilot for The CW, "Beauty and the Beast".

Unlike the fairy tale, this version of "Beauty and the Beast" is a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.

Kreuk plays Catherine, a tough-minded NYPD homicide detective haunted by witnessing her mother's murder nine years ago and the killers' quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a superhero.

The project is loosely based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name. Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper (Brothers & Sisters) are attached as the head writers while Gary Fleder is slated to direct the pilot.
