FX has awarded its spooky show "American Horror Story" with a new season order just in time for Halloween. The cable network announced on Monday, October 31 that it picked up the freshman for a second season consisting of 13 episodes.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience," FX president John Landgraf said in a statement announcing the renewal. "It's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up."

He went on crediting the show's creators, "Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with 'Nip/Tuck', 'Glee' and now 'American Horror Story', which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

Garnering 3.2 million viewers, "American Horror Story" premiere was deemed the highest-rated start to any series on the network. It continues to draw more than 2.5 million viewers each week and the network claims the show is "tracking to become the highest-rated first season of any series ever on FX, certain to surpass Murphy's award-winning hit drama 'Nip/Tuck' in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34."
