'Captain America' Conquers Box Office, Knocks Off 'Deathly Hallows 2'

Opening with $65.8 million, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' dethrones 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II' from its throne on the movie chart.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" has broken the spell of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II". The Chris Evans-starring superhero movie, which budgeted at $140 million, bows at No. 1 on North American Box Office, pushing aside the Daniel Radcliffe-starring boy wizard film.

"Captain America" rakes in a total of $65.8 million in its first three days, attracting mostly male moviegoers (64|percent|) over the age of 25 (58|percent|). The sale number is on par with those of the previous superhero releases, "Thor" ($65.7 million) and "X-Men: First Class" ($55.1 million). It becomes the 48th largest opening for a comic book adapted film.

"Deathly Hallows 2" goes down from the top to the runner-up position. After scoring the biggest opening weekend ever with $168.6 million, the last installment of the movie series now has to settle at the second place with additional $48.1 million. It pushes a total of $274.2 million in its ten-day of release, and is on the way to surpass the $317.6 million tally of the "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and become the highest grossing "Harry Potter" film.

The second highest debut on the movie chart this week is "Friends with Benefits". The romcom starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis lands at No. 3 with $18.5 million. It can't outdo similarly-themed movie "No Strings Attached". Last January, the movie, which has Ashton Kutcher on the lead, opened with $19.7 million.

Trailing behind "Friends with Benefits" is former Box Office champ "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". The robot-war flick has to give up its second position and slump to the third with $12 million. "Horrible Bosses" also takes a tumble on the chart. The movie revolving around Jennifer Aniston as a sex-crazed dentist falls to No. 5 with $11.7 million.
