Director Matthew Vaughn already has one comic book adaptation in the works with "Kick-Ass", but that apparently doesn't stop him from hoping to lay his hand on one particular Marvel movie. When asked about his dream project, the producer of "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" reveals that he wants "The Avengers".
"[I'd] love to do 'The Avengers,'" Vaughn tells MTV News. The 38-year-old filmmaker, who was once attached to "Thor" before his contract expired and Kenneth Branagh stepped in, further fesses up that he is looking forward to be able to do a new "Superman" movie, saying "And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman."
On the occasion, the husband of model/actress Claudia Schiffer also talks about the superhero project that got away. "I was desperate to do 'Iron Man' about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, 'Iron Man, no one will go watch that,'" he recalls. "Cut to now, and it's a huge hit." About his passion to superhero films, he says, "I grew up watching superhero films, so I want to make superhero films."
Matthew Vaughn is known for his directing work in "Layer Cake" and "Stardust", both of which he also produced. His upcoming movie will be an adaptation of comic book series by John Romita, Jr. and Mark Millar, "Kick-Ass". The movie that follows an ordinary teenage boy who decides to be a real life hero eyes a 2010 release.
His mentioned dream project, "The Avengers", in the meantime, will pick up the story when the Earth's mightiest heroes will have to work together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced. Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson have all been confirmed to star in this film which is now set for May 4, 2012 U.S. release.
