Mickey Rourke helps PETA encouraging people to have their pets spayed and neutered in the organization's new ABC ad campaign.

AceShowbiz - Boxer and Golden Globe-winning actor Mickey Rourke, widely recognized for his starring role in "The Wrestler," displays his soft side as he's been featured in a new ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with his beloved Chihuahua, named Jaws. Doing the ad, the star helps the organization's effort to spread the words on the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

"Have the cojones to fix your dog," so read the caption that accompanies Mickey's PETA ad. "When dogs get knocked up, puppies get put down because there aren't enough homes for them."

As apparent in the news photo, Mickey's PETA ad features him striking a pose in his trademark sunglasses and holding Jaws with both of his hands. Speaking of the cause itself, he says, "I think if the public is more aware of fixing their animals, of not going to the puppy store - which I have been guilty of - they wouldn't be putting so many dogs to death each week."

Further details about the cause are on PETA.

Mickey Rourke won Best Actor Golden Globe at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held Sunday, January 11, thanks to his role as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in "The Wrestler." Making his award acceptance speech, he thanked his co-stars, agent, and also dogs. "Sometimes when a man's alone, that's all you've got is your dog. They've meant the world to me," he explained.
