The 51st Annual Grammy Awards Date and Venue Announced

One of the most prestigious music awards has revealed February 8 and Staples Center, L.A. as the time and place to hold its 51st annual event.

AceShowbiz - Musicians and music lovers are preparing to mark February 8, 2009 as a special date, after it has been announced as the day for the 51st Annual Grammy Awards to be staged on. The event is set to be aired on CBS Live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles starting from 8 P.M.

The news was announced on May 21 by Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow and CBS Executive Vice President of Specials, Music and Live Events Jack Sussman. Commenting about the decision to pick Staples Center as the venue, Neil said, "The next 50 is here, and we are delighted to be in our hometown." Meanwhile, Jack also added, "The GRAMMY Awards are unique for their once-in-a-lifetime musical surprises. What better place to host Music's Biggest Night than the Staples Center right in the heart of the great city of Los Angeles."

Neil claims that he is very enthusiastic about the upcoming event and also promises that it will be another memorable event. "We will continue to offer a weeklong series of GRAMMY events that showcase various genres of music, educational programs and charitable activities. Additionally, we look forward to working with the city of Los Angeles and our great partners at CBS and Staples Center on another memorable GRAMMY show," Neil explained.

Before the Grammy starts, it will be preceded by the announcement for the awards nominations which will be held on December 4, 2008 in L.A. The nominees will be picked by the Recording Academy's members who will choose the musicians they think are the best during the period of October 1, 2007-September 30, 2008.
