It's official. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are now husband-and-wife. The longtime celebrity couple swapped wedding vows Saturday evening, May 17 at the Encino home of the bride's parents, Joe and Tina Simpson.
Much contrary to their persistent denial of an alleged wedding, a spokesperson for the newlyweds confirmed to People later that day, "We're delighted to confirm that Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson were married this evening in front of family and close friends." There were reportedly 150 guests attended the Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding which was held at Ashlee's parents' Los Angeles-area home.
Ashlee had her dad Joe Simpson performed the non-denominational ceremony and her singer sister Jessica Simpson served as maid of honor. In hand serving as the ring-bearer was Wentz's English bulldog, Hemingway.
Ashlee wore an ivory lace wedding gown by Monique Lhuillier and diamond-adorned necklace and earrings by William Noble. Wedding planner Mindy Weiss helped Ashlee got her dream nuptials that featured a wedding cake by Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings with a top hat, tea pot, stop watch and a pot of flowers on top.
Guests, including Jessica's boyfriend Tony Romo, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, and fellow Fall Out Boy members, were served Rose Veuve Clicquot champagne followed by a sit-down dinner and dancing to a deejay.
Many of the female guests, according to E! News as being informed by a source close to the Simpsons, painted their nails black and that "black or very dark" clothing dominated the fashion of people who attended the bash. The source, moreover, described the entire theme as "goth-like" and "very unwedding like." A gothic cross on the altar reinforced the motif.
Guests reportedly were instructed not to bring cameras of any kind and even told not to bring in cell phones.
