Boxing champion, ballroom dancer, and TV personality Laila Ali could soon add "mother" to her list of roles. The NBC's "American Gladiators" co-host confirms exclusively to Essence Magazine that she and her husband, former NFL star Curtis Conway, are expecting their first child together.
Made public her pregnancy in the publication's May 2008 issue, Laila said "I don't know yet if we are having a boy or a girl, but I'm excited that I have a life inside me that my husband and I created." She's due to give birth to the baby by this fall.
Laila married Curtis, her second husband, on July 23, 2007 in Los Angeles. This is the first child for Laila and the fourth for Curtis who has had three children: daughter Leilani, and twin sons Kelton and Cameron.
Laila and Curtis met at a small-get-together which he hosted at his house several years ago. They got engaged on Thanksgiving 2006.
About her man, Laila told Essence "Curtis is very calm and has a quiet confidence, and he wanted what I wanted-to be married and have a family." She went on saying, "I am 100 percent undeniably happy. I've never been able to say that before."
Laila, the daughter of retired American boxer and former three-time World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali, first married Johnny "Yahya" McClain on August 27, 2000. The pair, however, divorced in late 2005.
