Reports are saying that Katharine McPhee is in talks with another major label after her deal with RCA Records is off.

EntertainmentWeekly.com reported that American Idol alumna Katharine McPhee has left her record label due to, allegedly, poor final sale of her self-titled debut album. Words are circulating that she will follow her fellow Idol, Taylor Hicks', footsteps to release her sophomore effort on her own.

McPhee was signed to RCA Records when she was announced as the runner-up of fifth season. A rep from the label confirmed her departure saying, "Katharine is going to record her next album on her own." EW.com then stated that they heard "she's already in talks with another label".

Problems allegedly stemming from the inability of 'Katharine McPhee' the album to reach platinum status although it opened at #2 on Billboard Hot 200 upon its release in January 2007. Nevertheless, its U.S. sales haven't cracked the 500,000 milestone. On the other side, sources close to McPhee said that the label did not give the necessary support for the album.

Through her own lips, McPhee stated that she will record her second album this month. Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster hinted in 2007 that he will be working with her in the album. Beside working in the booth, McPhee also landed an acting stint in 'I Know What Boys Like which will be released later this year.

EW.com also wrote that an RCA Music Group responded to the recent departures of Idols such as Ruben Studdard and Hicks saying, "After six seasons, we are proud of the eight artists on the roster who started their careers on the show. With respect to Taylor, we have an understanding that he will come back to us to play music once he's finished writing his new material."
