Lead stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe brought their wives along with Jay-Z and Method Man as the VIP guests.

AceShowbiz - The brilliance of New York took some higher notches of brightness when a number of famous figures in U.S. entertainment industry gathered up for the world premiere of crime saga "merican Gangster" on Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Apollo Theatre.

Bracing the heavy rain, the flick's cast members cheerfully mingled with other celebrities at the scene, cheered up by crowds as they strolled down the red carpet for the screening. Pic's leading actors Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe both arrived with their wives, joined by co-stars Josh Brolin, Cuba Gooding Jr., rapper Common, Lymari Nadal, and Armand Assante.

Jay-Z, who got inspired by the movie in making his tenth studio album of the same name, also made his way to attend the glittering occasion, but minus girlfriend Beyonce Knowles. Fellow rapper Method Man turned up as well with record exec L.A. Reid spotted to flash his wide smile.

Opens in theaters November 2 this year, "Gangster" tells about real-life heroin kingpin Frank Lucas who smuggled drugs into the country in the coffins of American soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. In portraying the man, Washington reportedly had to undergo sixty-four different costume change during the shooting process.
