Mia Hamm and husband Nomar Garciaparra welcomed the arrival of their first child, twin daughters, late Tuesday March 27th.
"Both are healthy and over five pounds," Nomar spokesman Josh Rawitch said, adding the births took place in the Los Angeles area.
Nomar, who is a Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman, flew from Florida to witness the births, but was in the air when the babies were born. "He was on a speaker phone with the delivery room speaking with Mia during the births," Rawitch said.
Mia, a former soccer superstar, met Nomar at a 1998 charity event, and they wed in Santa Barbara in 2003. The couple lives in Los Angeles.
