Stone Sour were first formed as a duo with Corey Taylor and Joel Ekman on the line-up. The band were named after an alcoholic drink that consists of one part whiskey, one part orange juice, with a splash of sour mix. By 1996, they had grown to become a four piece with the addition of Jim Root and Shawn Economaki and started to shop around their demo. They did not land any record deal until 2000. This made them deciding to take a break which was later used by Taylor and Root to work for Slipknot which already sealed major record deal.
