Making his professional acting debut with a part in "When She Danced" at the Gielgud Theatre in 1991, Michael (Christopher) Sheen worked mainly in theatre throughout the 1990s. His notable stage appearances were those as Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet" (1992), Perdican in "Don't Fool With Love" (1993), the title character in "Peer Gynt" (1994), as Konstantin in "The Seagull" (1995), Lenny in "The Homecoming" (1997), and as Henry V in "Henry V" (1997). He, in fact, was best known for his performances in "Amadeus" and "Look Back in Anger" which earned him Olivier Award nominations for two consecutive years (1998-1999). Then again, in 2003 the Newport, Wales-bred star was nominated for another Olivier Award for his performance in "Caligula".

Sheen actually had begun appearing on TV and big screen features since early 1990s, but didn't rise to prominence until 2000s. He was particularly known for starring as Tony Blair in the biopics; "The Deal" (2003), "The Queen" (2006), and "The Special Relationship" (2010), which brought him an Emmy and a BAFTA nominations. He next appeared on BBC's play "Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa!" as its title character and was nominated for another BAFTA. Additionally, his portrayal of broadcaster David Frost in "Frost/Nixon" brought him a fourth Olivier Award nomination. The February 5, 1969 born actor later on reprised the role in the 2008 film adaptation of the play.

In line with his ever growing popularity as an actor, Sheen went on exploring wider range of roles and genres. He could next be seen acting in "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", "Tron: Legacy", and "Midnight in Paris". Besides, he also guest starred on the NBC's hit comedy "30 Rock" as well as on Showtime's popular TV drama "Masters of Sex", for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

Sheen has a daughter Lily Mo Sheen (b. 1999) with former partner Kate Beckinsale, whom he dated from 1995 until 2003.
