Malin Maria Åkerman, born on 12 May 1978 in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish-American actress who has built a diverse and acclaimed career across film and television. Raised partly in Canada after her family relocated there in her youth, she initially pursued modeling before transitioning to acting, landing smaller roles in both Canadian and American productions. Her early film appearances included The Utopian Society in 2003 and the stoner comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle in 2004, but it was her main role on the HBO mockumentary series The Comeback in 2005 that first brought her significant attention.

Åkerman’s career gained momentum with a series of commercially successful romantic comedies, including The Heartbreak Kid in 2007 alongside Ben Stiller and 27 Dresses in 2008 with Katherine Heigl. However, her breakout moment came in 2009 when she was cast as Laurie Jupiter, the second Silk Spectre, in Zack Snyder’s superhero epic Watchmen. Her performance in the film earned her a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and solidified her status as a rising star. That same year, she appeared in two more box office hits: the romantic comedy The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, and the ensemble comedy Couples Retreat with Vince Vaughn.

Throughout the 2010s, Åkerman demonstrated her versatility by balancing comedic and dramatic roles. She earned critical praise for her lead role on the ABC sitcom Trophy Wife from 2013 to 2014, and she was a main cast member on the Adult Swim comedy series Childrens Hospital from 2010 to 2016. In film, she received a Fangoria Chainsaw Award nomination for her performance in the comedy horror The Final Girls in 2015, and she delivered a poignant turn in the critically acclaimed drama I'll See You in My Dreams the same year. She later appeared in the blockbuster action film Rampage in 2018 with Dwayne Johnson and the period drama To the Stars in 2019.

On television, Åkerman joined the main cast of the Showtime drama series Billions from 2016 to 2019, and she has continued to secure prominent roles, including starring in the Netflix drama series The Hunting Wives from 2025 onward. Beyond acting, she briefly pursued a music career in the early 2000s as the lead vocalist for the alternative rock band the Petalstones, which released its debut studio album in 2005 before she left the project to focus on acting. In 2024, she hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, alongside Petra Mede, a role that returned her to the global spotlight. Åkerman has been married twice: first to Petalstones drummer Roberto Zincone from 2007 to 2014, with whom she has a son, and since 2018 to English actor Jack Donnelly. Her career continues to evolve, marked by a willingness to take on varied and challenging roles across both indie and mainstream projects.
