She got her first acting gig after joining an open casting audition for the Canadian teen drama series "Edgemont", being picked to play the role of Laurel Yeung. Soon thereafter, she found herself an agent and landed the leading role of Snow White in TV movie "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" aired on ABC.

In 2004, Kreuk could be seen starring on the Sci Fi Channel's two-part miniseries "Legend of Earthsea" as Tenar. She next secured a major role on the smash series "Smallville" as Clark Kent's first love, Lana Lang. It was the character that gave her acting career a boost and earned her nominations for Best Actress Saturn Awards and Choice TV Actress Teen Choice Awards. The December 30, 1982 born actress remained on the feature until its seventh season, after which she signed on to appear on action-comedy/spy-drama series "Chuck".

By 2010, Kreuk was recruited to portray Ben Hur's sister Tirzah in the TV movie "Ben Hur". Beginning from early 2012, she's played Catherine Chandler, the lead female character in The CW's reboot of "Beauty & the Beast". She won People's Choice Award � Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress and was nominated for Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actress Fantasy/Sci-Fi for two consecutive years, 2012 and 2013. On the big screen, the Vancouver, British Columbia native had starred in such films, as "Partition" (2007), "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" (2009), and "Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy" (2011).
