Will Rokos reportedly tried to get up after the big impact but witnesses told him to lay still until help arrived.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Will Rokos is in a critical condition in hospital after he was struck by a subway train in New York City over the weekend. Rokos was hit by the train as he stood on a platform on Saturday, October 30. The driver is said to have slammed on the brakes but was unable to avoid the accident.

According to some reports, Rokos was leaning over the platform when the train came. The impact sent him flying onto the platform. When help arrived, Rokos was semi-conscious and lying on his side. After surviving the initial impact, the writer was taken to the city's Bellevue Hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

Rokos was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay prize for his work on Halle Berry's 2001 thriller "Monster's Ball".
