Author and Royals reporter Omid Scobie claims that the Duchess of Sussex has 'moved on' from the royal family after stepping down as senior royal member in 2020.

AceShowbiz - Meghan Markle is putting her life as a British royal family behind. According to author and Royals reporter Omid Scobie, the Duchess of Sussex has "moved on" from the royal family after stepping down as senior royal member alongside husband Prince Harry in 2020.

Omid, whose new book "Endgame" will be released on November 28, told PEOPLE, "Quite early on in the [book-writing] process, some of those Meghan sources that I really leant on in the earlier years this time were like, 'You know what? She doesn't want anything to do with it.' "

However, Omid noted that things are different with Harry. "He still has unfinished business when it comes to his battles with the press," the royal expert explained. "His challenge will be to find something that balances that out so we can see him working in a space that isn't connected to the ties that bind from the past."

Despite that, the Sussexes are not completely shutting out themselves from the royal family. They reportedly called King Charles to wish him a happy birthday on Tuesday, November 14. That was allegedly the first time Harry spoke to his father after months amid their rift due to his explosive memoir "Spare".

"With Harry, there's a reluctant acceptance that this is just who his father is. He would rather have that in his life than to cut it off completely. Hence, when they talk it is often [Harry] reaching out," Omid said. "And i was surprised to learn that even Meghan has some sort of correspondence with Charles, sending over photos of the children, although they're not directly to him. So there is a willingness there."

While Omid appeared to see the birthday call as a positive move, a palace insider slammed Harry and Meghan for allegedly leaking the phone call to the press. Calling the couple "total hypocrites," the source told Page Six, "Harry and Meghan fight for privacy when it suits them, and yet the minute Harry gets on the phone to the King, it's in a newspaper."

However, a Sussex source insisted that the couple wasn't involved in the leak in any way. The source added that the birthday call shouldn't be too surprising, saying, "Of course Harry wants to have a better relationship with Charles. He is his father after all."

During the phone call, Meghan allegedly jumped on the call. It was also said that their two kids Archie and Lilibet sent a sweet video message of them singing "Happy Birthday" to their grandfather.
