When breaking her silence on the war in the Middle East, the 'Only Murders in the Building' star blames the 'violence and terror that's going on in the world' for her social media break.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez has caught some flak after weighing in on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Expressing her heartbreak over the demise of some innocent lives amid the ongoing war, the actress/singer has been slammed for taking a neutral stance.
The 31-year-old star took to her Instagram Story on Monday, October 30 to break her silence on the war and explain how it has prompted her decision to take a break from social media. "I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world," she wrote. "People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific."
Without saying which side she supports, the "Only Murders in the Building" actress continued, "We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good. I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can't stand by innocent people getting hurt. That's what makes me sick."
Despite having over 430 million followers, Selena humbly said that her words wouldn't make a significant change on the current situation. She stressed, "I wish I could change the world. But a post won't. Love, Selena."
In a follow-up Story, Selena shared a picture of a young girl and wrote in the caption, "Having a sister, everyday has made me tragically sick. I would do anything for children and innocent lives."
While Selena has expressed her sympathy for the deaths of civilians in the war in the Middle East, many have criticized the actress for not being more outspoken on the matter. "she's literally the most followed woman on ig but her post won't do anything um okay," one user commented.
Another reacted to her excuse, " 'But a post won't' does she not know how big her influence is when she brings attention to this issue? This reeks." A third added. "being neutral while knowing all the facts is just like you are supporting the oppressers."
Another mocked Selena, "She didn't really say anything." A fifth person similarly said, "Her post won't even add anything at all. Just like pouring water on a stone," while another claimed, "She been leaving her comments on stuff that's not needed all day." Someone else urged the star, "Salena [sic], you can make a difference tho you almost have 400+ million followers. At least keep a strong point here instead of leaving."
