Disney's New 'Nutcracker' Movie Casts Mackenzie Foy as Clara

The Renesmee Cullen of the 'Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn' movies has been tapped to play the lead character in Disney's live-action adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman's 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King'.

AceShowbiz - Disney's "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" has found its lead actress. According to Variety, "Interstellar" star Mackenzie Foy has been tapped to play Clara in the live-action adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman's 1816 short story titled "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".

The 15-year-old actress joins Misty Copeland, who takes the role of a lead ballerina for the dance sequences in the upcoming fantasy film. Lasse Hallstrom is on board to direct the film based on a screenplay written by Ashleigh Powell. Mark Gordon produces the live-action project, with Lindy Goldstein executive producing. Sam Dickerman and Allison Erlikhman oversee the project for Disney.

Based on the popular Christmas Eve tale, the story is about a young girl who finds a Nutcracker doll among the family's gifts and is charged by her parents to take special care of it. Under the cover of darkness, the Nutcracker comes to life along with an evil Mouse King with seven heads, introducing the girl to the magical world of toys and the brave Nutcracker who will change her life forever.

Foy previously starred in "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part I" and "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part II" as Renesmee Cullen, and in 2014's "Interstellar" as Murphy Cooper, daughter of Matthew McConaughey's character. The actress recently lent her voice to The Little Girl in 2015's animation "The Little Prince".
