Movie Story
Screen legend Natalie Portman (V FOR VENDETTA, STAR WARS) lights up the screen in this frank, funny, and heartwrenching adaptation of bestselling author Ayelet Waldman's novel about life, loss, and motherhood. Emilia Woolf (PORTMAN) wants nothing more than to love and be loved. And as the blushing new bride of a high-powered New York lawyer (Scott Cohen, "One Life to Live"), you'd think she'd have it made in the shade. But life has just delivered the young hopeful a crushing blow: She's just lost her newborn daughter, possibly due to Emilia's own carelessness. She must also shoulder the burden of a dark secret, her father's surreptitious affair with a stripper, and cope with the constant interferences of her new husband's angry, jealous ex-wife. As Emilia struggles to make peace with her bright new stepson William (Charlie Tahan, I AM LEGEND), she's wounded by his insensitivity.... yet soon finds their playful exchanges help her develop a sense of humor about her circumstances. Can Emilia rediscover her own capacity for affection in time to salvage her dissolving relationship with Jack? Directed by Don Roos from his own screenplay, this tearful, terrific tale proves that even with a pursuit like love, nothing is impossible...
