Laura (Debra Messing) receives a mysterious voicemail from a man begging for help before being cut off by gunshots that leads her and Meredith (Janina Gavankar) to Brooklyn, where they find the man murdered. When Laura discovers the victim was the boyfriend of her grifter half-sister, Lucy (guest star Debby Ryan), Laura hides this information from the detective in charge of the case (guest star Tate Donovan) - determined to find her sister before the police or the murderer can.

Lucy is not happy to be found and tells Laura she cut out when she thought her boyfriend had a drug relapse. When the team recovers Lucy and her boyfriend's stolen van, they also discover its secret compartment full of counterfeit medication. Laura is furious to learn Lucy was lying - she not only knew about the drugs, she was in on her boyfriend's scheme. Lucy admits they had skimmed money from the drug lord they were working for - Jimmy Chun - and that her boyfriend had been trying to buy them time by pretending he had a buyer for all of Chun's counterfeit medication.

This information leads Santiani (Callie Thorne) to set up a sting operation in which Laura pretends to be the buyer, ready to pay $5 million for the counterfeit drugs. The team has a plan in place for Laura's airport meet-up with Chun, but Laura is intercepted by one of Chun's men and taken to him before she can get her gun and wire. Ever the improviser, Laura pulls off the deal on her own, and thanks to Santiani tracking Laura's phone with a "find my friends" app, the police are there to take down the entire operation as soon as Laura has the drugs in hand.

Santiani insists Laura accompany her to the press conference announcing the bust. It's a huge win for the 2nd precinct, and the rest of the team gathers at their bar to watch Santiani's speech. Everyone is celebrating, until they hear a gunshot and the chilling news that a female police officer is down. Jake (Josh Lucas) races to the hospital, where he finds a shell-shocked Laura. Santiani is dead.
