The night before Allison's first day of law school, she dreams that Joe's killed in a plane crash. Seven years later, she's an up and coming lawyer in the D.A's office prepping for a case against drug lord, Luis Amenabar. The D.A. is killed in a car explosion, pushing Allison to lead prosecutor, however, she gets distracted by a dream that Joe is still alive. She believes Amenabar has been using an amnesic Joe to run drugs across the border. She takes his plea, ruining the case for the D.A. and goes to Mexico to find Joe. She's awoken by Joe's ghost telling her he really is gone. His gift was her dream to show her how life will go on for her and the kids, but she kept interfering. Forty years go by, Ariel is married and a mom, Bridgette is an author, and Marie is a woman. Allison passes away and finds Joe waiting for her.
