At a local restaurant, Dolly, Emily and Noah wait for Ewan McGregor to arrive for his and Doll's "date". Though he's 45 minutes late, Em assures Doll that he's "probably just playing it cool." Embarrassed, Doll reveals that she "got off" with the actor in the bathroom the night before.

Back at Emily's, Doll combs the nits from her friend's hair. They discuss Doll's unanswered texts to Ewan, which reek of desperation. Em continues to feel disconnected from Noah when she comes upstairs to find him and Olivia deep in conversation about his art.

Doll accompanies Em to her first fitting for 'Space Pilgrim,' but is consumed with making edits to their play. An equally-distracted Em finds herself coughing uncontrollably, which causes her to worry about her health.

Ewan makes a Facetime call to Emily to explain that he's having second thoughts about 'Space Pilgrim' and that he's backing out of the film. He cites Dolly's comment about his character being "a big iPhone charger" as a main concern. Still on Facetime, Ewan excuses himself to take another call, and Doll and Em listen in on what is clearly a conversation with another woman. Emily hangs up; Doll is upset that Ewan didn't mention her apart from quoting her. Immediately after the call, Emily gets an email from 'Space Pilgrim' informing her that financing fell apart without Ewan. Doll excuses herself and vomits in the bathroom.

Doll Skypes with her mom, and details her recent health issues. Her mom suspects Dolly's going through menopause.

Lacking confidence in 'Joanne's Gift,' Emily meets Mikhail Baryshnikov for dinner. He encourages her to have faith and to treat the play like she would her child. On her way home, Emily is stopped by a woman dressed as Virginia Woolf, whose enigmatic sermon about women in the arts revives Em's passion for the play.

Back at home, a re-energized Emily fills Doll in about her strange encounter with Virginia Woolf. "Thank god you f**ked up that Ewan McGregor movie for me!" she tells her friend. "We don't need men to validate us -- we're free now."
