Inside Volkoff industries, a scientist in a lab coat is detained by a security agent who demands identification. The scientist sprays him with a toxic aerosol of Atroxium, a deadly toxin he's developed that immediately sends the agent into hallucinogenic convulsions. The scientist, Dr. Wheelwright, watches him suffer, then turns to a surveillance camera and brags about his toxin's effectiveness. On the other end of the surveillance system, Chuck's mom agrees. She meets the doctor face to face to deliver good news. She's got a very interested buyer for the doctor's powerful new weapon.

Two weeks later, Chuck sits alone in his apartment courtyard, wondering about his mom. Suddenly his phone rings: his mom says she wants to meet him in one hour! Chuck is full of questions and outrage, but agrees to meet. His mom tells him to come alone.

In a deserted park, Chuck waits on a picnic table. Sarah hides in the bushes; Chuck doesn't want to handle this by himself. His mom calls and resets the rendezvous spot. Sarah shadows Chuck, but Chuck's mom gets the drop on her. They pull their pistols, each threatening the other. As the tension escalates, Chuck arrives to calm things down, introducing his girlfriend to his mother. "I don't know how to say this exactly," Chuck begs, "But please don't kill each other."

Chuck talks Sarah and his mom into lowering their weapons. As he struggles to talk to the mother he hasn't connected with since childhood, she stops him. She's deep undercover for Volkoff, she explains; anything he tells her could be tortured out of her if her cover is blown. Sarah is skeptical and asks why there are no CIA records of her. Chuck's mom tells her they were expunged to allow her to go deep inside Volkoff. Mary then informs them that she's got something for them: the revelation that the toxin developed by Dr. Wheelwright is about to be put on the underground arms market. She's inviting them to thwart the sale, by having Chuck pose as Volkoff's top buyer. She disappears off into the night.

Buy More is abuzz with preparation for Halloween. As the manager, Morgan must make sure the store is ready to take advantage of the season. But decorating and running the store are proving to be a challenge. He asks Big Mike how he handled the workload when he was the manager. Easy, he tells Morgan: delegate. Spotting Jeff and Lester, he hits upon a solution. He'll delegate the store's decoration to them.

Per his mom's suggestion, Chuck tells Beckman that he's flashed on Dr. Wheelwright. Casey, Sarah, and Morgan join Chuck in Castle to pitch how they'll deal with the threat. Chuck outlines his plan: infiltrate Volkoff by posing as a buyer for the Atroxium. Good work, the general tells him and authorizes the operation. Chuck lets Morgan and Casey in on the secret that he's located his mom and that she gave up the information about the weapons deal. Casey and Sarah aren't so sure Chuck's mom is really undercover: Casey's friend in NSA documents can find no trace of her.

Awesome's mom, Honey, has arrived for a visit. She's cancelled her reservation at the hotel, opting to stay with her son and Ellie. She quickly concerns herself with cleaning their apartment and prepping for the baby's arrival. Ellie is less than thrilled.

The operation's underway. Sarah has infiltrated a restaurant as hostess; Chuck is seated by himself waiting for the meeting as Casey and Morgan watch from Castle. Wheelwright approaches and immediately begins asking about a price. But before Chuck can really engage him, his mother appears. She explains to Dr. Wheelwright that Mr. Carmichael is not a buyer at all, but a CIA spy. She draws a pistol and shoots Chuck in the chest. Chaos ensues with Sarah returning fire and patrons fleeing in fright.

Chuck sits upright, examining the hole in the chest of his shirt - his bulletproof vest saved him. By why did his mom try to kill him? Back at Castle, Sarah comforts Chuck and explains that in the spy world, sometimes things don't make sense.

Morgan is called upstairs by Lester. They're looking for direction on their Halloween decorating ideas. Morgan has no time for them; just make it big, fun, and scary, he tells them. After Morgan leaves, Lester tells Jeff they must tap his inner demented imagination to concoct the scariest Halloween ever.

As he's leaving the Buy More, Chuck notices a black sports car screech to a halt. It's his mom. Chuck scolds her for the way she's treated him. She produces a pistol and tells him to get in the car. Chuck gets in and activates his tracking device; Casey and Sarah have him plotted. In the car, Chuck's mom explains that she left him and Ellie after she became part of project Isis, an operation to take Volkoff down. But she got in too deep and had to leave her family behind. When Chuck resurfaced and began looking for her, she had to find a way to protect him from Volkoff. Her plan: fake his death so Volkoff wouldn't go after him. She knew Volkoff was watching the security monitors at the restaurant and that Chuck was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Chuck's mom takes him to a remote storage yard, delivering him to a storage container that Wheelwright has been using as a lab. Meanwhile Sarah, Casey and a tactical team are closing in. Her children safe from Volkoff's grip, Chuck mom's says goodbye. Chuck tells her as she leaves that Ellie's pregnant; won't she please visit her and think about her granddaughter-to-be? She disappears into the night. The team takes Wheelwright into custody.

At Buy More, Jeff and Lester have made over the store. Morgan and Chuck are impressed. But the real scariness is inside their signature attraction: The Aisle of Terror. Jeff and Lester have created a tent with projection screens everywhere showing disturbing images inspired by the theories of a UCLA professor. A slideshow commences, with shots of old people, public showers, monkeys and cats, babies in costume. Morgan is creeped out and tells them no customers can come inside.

Ellie goes shopping for baby stuff with Awesome and his mom Honey. In the baby store, Chuck and Ellie's mom watches surreptitiously.

Inside Castle, the toxin device suddenly beeps and begins counting down. Chuck and Sarah confront Wheelwright, who explains it's a device he installed to disperse the toxin if it's not in his control. They force him at gunpoint to disarm it. He appears to, but as they turn their backs, the device goes off, spraying the deadly toxin throughout the room. Chuck pushes Sarah away and throws Castle into lockdown, effectively sealing himself in with Wheelwright and his mind-bending gas. Reacting to the toxin, Chuck becomes very scared, but Wheelwright is immune to its effects. They head up into the Buy More where Chuck suffers a series of horrible hallucinations in the Aisle of Terror. Meanwhile, Sarah frantically tries to override the lock-down, finally breaking through. The Aisle of Terror jogs a bad memory for Wheelwright and he bolts from the tent - only to be knocked silly by a waiting Sarah.

Morgan and Casey are on a meetup with an informant, hoping to get some information on project Isis. Casey leaves Morgan alone. He's to act as a "magnet" to attract the informant. Though Morgan's armed with an intimidating paintball pistol, the informant quickly subdues him - but only until Casey shows up with a real gun of his own. They take the project Isis file from the informant and let him go. Casey looks over the file and announces that Chuck's mom checks out, i.e. she has been working for the CIA.

Back at Castle, Sarah comforts Chuck after his hallucinogenic ordeal. They plan some alone time. But Chuck checks his voice mail; his mom wants to meet him and Ellie tonight. Sarah wants to accompany them, but Chuck wants to keep it a family affair. Sarah meets up with Casey in a remote location. He's got bad news: the project Isis files were a fake. Chuck's mom is a double agent.

Ellie and Chuck wait nervously at a restaurant for their mom. Chuck steps outside to see if she's gotten delayed. He sees his mom approach, but just as they're about to greet one another, a silver van screeches up behind her. Gunmen dressed in black haul her inside. Chuck tries to free his mom, but he can't. He manages to pull off the hood of one of the assailants: it's Sarah! "Your mom's not who you think she is," Sarah tells Chuck, before jumping back into the van and speeding off. A dejected and crushed Chuck must return to the restaurant and explain to his sister once more that their mom won't be coming back anytime soon: she's a spy.
