AceShowbiz - A boxing promoter named CSI Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather in New York, MediaTakeOut reports. The promoter alleges it paid Mayweather $4.5 million for exclusive rights to two fights, including an exhibition match against Mike Tyson and a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, but claims the boxer pulled out of the agreements.
Per MediaTakeOut, CSI Entertainment also says it gave Mayweather a separate $150,000 advance and that the deal was personally approved by Mayweather through his management company, First Apex Ventures. However, the day after receiving the advance, Mayweather announced a separate fight against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis with a different promoter. The company further asserts that Mayweather secretly arranged an alternative deal to stream the Pacquiao fight on Netflix from the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Thejasminebrand adds that CSI Entertainment invested considerable resources preparing for the Tyson and Pacquiao events and claims it could face significant harm if those fights proceed under other promoters. The lawsuit seeks damages, repayment of funds, and court orders to block the Zambidis fight and the alleged Netflix streaming event. This legal action follows closely on the heels of felony theft and fraud charges brought against Mayweather involving a bounced check for a $200,000 watch. As of late Thursday, Mayweather’s legal team has not publicly responded to the lawsuit or the criminal allegations.
This lawsuit highlights the complexities and potential disputes surrounding high-profile boxing events, especially when exclusive rights and multi-million-dollar advances are involved. With Mayweather’s history of lucrative fights and business dealings, the outcome could impact his future arrangements and the promoters who invest heavily in these marquee matchups.
