AceShowbiz - Euphoria has been leading up to a tense and emotional wedding between Cassie and Nate, but fans are left wondering if the couple actually got married during the latest episode aired on Sunday, April 26.
The episode focused heavily on Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, and Nate, portrayed by Jacob Elordi, as they prepared for and went through their wedding day. While the event was filled with anticipation from the guests, it quickly became clear that all was not well behind the scenes. Nate was visibly unwell, frequently vomiting, and Cassie was under immense pressure, nearly overwhelmed by the stress of the day.
Despite these challenges, the couple successfully exchanged their vows without any obvious hiccups. However, the wedding reception took a dark turn when a man named Naz, to whom Nate owed money, confronted him during dinner. This confrontation was overheard by some guests, revealing to Cassie for the first time that Nate was deeply in debt.
The tension escalated after Cassie "accidentally" injured Nate in the eye with a cork from a champagne bottle, which led to a brief reconciliation between the two. Yet, when they returned home, Naz was waiting again, this time with more violent intentions. The situation worsened as Nate was physically assaulted, and his pinky finger was cut off in front of Cassie, marking a grim and violent start to their married life.
This harrowing sequence ties back to the complicated and often toxic beginning of their relationship, highlighting the ongoing turmoil surrounding the couple in Euphoria.
Outside of the wedding drama, Euphoria continues to push boundaries with its bold and graphic storytelling. The show is noted for its explicit scenes, and the cast has been open about the challenges of filming such content. Jacob Elordi spoke about his role on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2022, explaining, "Every scene is like, 'He sleeps with this person. He does this with this person naked.'"
Before this episode, Cassie's storyline involving her OnlyFans account faced backlash from some viewers. However, the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, defended the arc in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month. He explained, "Cassie has got her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor. But what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it."
Levinson added that their goal was to find "the other layer of absurdity" to avoid being too immersed in Cassie's fantasy or illusion. He called the scene's humor a "gag" designed to break the fourth wall, adding depth to the storytelling.
Euphoria is adapted from an Israeli series and follows the life of troubled high school student Rue, played by Zendaya, as she struggles with sobriety after rehab. The show explores complex themes such as mental illness, toxic relationships, and sexuality, continuing to captivate audiences with its raw and unfiltered portrayal of teenage life.
Regarding the upcoming third season, Levinson shared insights on how the series is evolving. "We have a motto of: Evolve or die," he told The Hollywood Reporter. The creative team aims to change the storytelling approach by focusing on the characters navigating the wider world, allowing the actors to deliver more emotionally driven performances rather than relying heavily on cinematic techniques.
Levinson explained, "We're seeing them out in the world, in the wider world, and allowing the actors to communicate emotionally through the performance as opposed to in the past, when we did it moreso through camera. We wanted to see them fending for themselves."
Euphoria continues to air on HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, maintaining its reputation as a bold and provocative series that explores the darker aspects of youth culture and relationships.
